

The latest update for Humankind will bring a platform of features for the modding community and developers. Mods can be important to games in the genre that Humankind finds itself in, with expansions often adding significant content and gameplay overhauls, which is a big part of the rival Civilisation series, boosting their appeal. The clashes between civilisations are a part of the game's mechanics, of course. There are 60 of them, in fact, and players have to try and balance societies - or not. Humankind's story begins 9000 years ago and sees the player progressing through various civilisations throughout human history. It seemed to be an interesting albeit safe interpretation of the historical 4X game. It was the fourth best-selling game in August in the US and it scored favourably with reviewers, generating a score of 78 on Metacritic. The PC title launched in the summer this year and is a rival to other strategy, turn-based 4X (empire-building) games such as Sid Meier's famed Civilisation series. Humankind will be getting official mod support, Sega Europe and Amplitude Studios have announced.
